LOUIS PASTEUR (1822-1895)
·
Louis Pasteur was a
French microbiologist. He discovered the principle of vaccination, microbial
fermentation and pasteurization.
·
His remarkable
breakthroughs in the causes and prevention of discoveries have saved many lives
ever since.
·
He reduced mortality
from puerperal fever and created the first vaccines for rabies and anthrax.
·
His medical discovery
provides direct support for the germ theory of disease. He discovers the
technique to stop bacterial contamination in milk and wine, which is called as
Pasteurization.
·
Pasteur was responsible
for disproving spontaneous generation. He performed experiments which show that
without contamination, microorganisms could not develop.
·
He demonstrated the
processes of sterilization which is followed till now. Pasture explained about
fermentation, and also that observed that less sugar fermented part of yeast
was exposed to air that lower the rate of fermentation aerobically became known
as Pasteur Effect.
·
Although Pasteur was
not the first to propose the germ theory his experiment indicates correctness
and convinced that it was true, he often regarded as one of the father of germ
theory.
·
Pasteur made
significant discoveries in chemistry. In 1887 he established Pasteur Institute.
